One Plastc Bag
Crossroads announces the September book of the Month.
One Plastc Bag by Isatou Ceesay & the Recycling Women of The Gambia. Isatou loved her beautiful country. She did not like what was happening with the accumulated ugly heaps of plastic bags. Water pooled in them bringing mosquitoes and disease. Burned bags left a terrible smell in the air. Livestock were killed by getting tangled in them or trying to eat the bags. Something had to change.
“People thought I was too young and that women couldn’t be leaders. I took these things as challenges; they gave me more power. I didn’t call out the problems—I called out solutions.”
Isatou’s project has brought jobs to her community and a cleaner environment to live in. A great book for entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability!
